Outlook usually becomes inaccessible, when the pst file gets corrupted. Corruption of a pst file occurs basically due to two major reasons,

  • Corruption due to version upgrade- This usually occurs, when the user upgrades from an older version of Outlook, to a newer version.
  • Corruption due to an oversized pst file- This type of corruption occurs, when the pst file exceeds its size limit of 2GB, resulting in loss important e-mails.

Outlook does provide some recovery tools to recover deleted emails from Outlook. In the first case, the user can make use of the Inbox Repair Tool, but this tool cannot assure you recovery of all your lost e-mails. In the second case, the user can make use of the crop utility, to reduce the size of your pst file. You can make use of this utility, only as a last resort, as this software randomly deletes some data, and you have no idea of what you are losing.

Since both the recovery tools provided by Outlook cannot assure complete recovery of data, it is always better to go for a good Outlook pst recovery software.
